Sami is a 100% Superwash Merino DK weight yarn created by spinning and plying two strands of yarn and then hand dyeing the (oh-so-soft and squishy) yarn. Sami is a sister to Marla. The Sami color palette is connected directly to the Marla; the two yarns coordinate with each other to make gorgeous color pairings! Sami has a delightfully springy structure and tonal semi-solid hand-dyed colors.
The Manos Cooperatives were founded in 1968, begun by five women whose goal was to develop economic opportunities for women in a country where there were, and are still, few opportunities for work. The Manos Cooperatives provide health insurance, retirement pensions, paid vacations and paid maternity leave for their members. Moreover, members enjoy a sense of achievement and of self-determination. In addition to creating yarns for handcrafters, the Manos Cooperatives have continued to produce ready-to-wear pieces for designers and department stores such as Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Nordstrom’s, and Sak’s. Today, the Manos Cooperatives number 17 cooperatives that employ 350 artisans. Manos del Uruguay has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) since 2009
