Handwoven Crossbody Bucket Bag

$65.00

These ethically-produced bucket bags are one-of-a-kind - each bag is made by hand and unique in it's color and design. Bags are woven with sisal and recycled wool (natural + synthetic) and finished with leather straps and brass rivets by a member of Kenya’s highly talented Kamba tribe, working within a fair trade cooperative. Each bag takes four days to make and the weaving normally takes place in amongst farming, housework, childcare and church. Basket weaving is a reliable source of additional income to the makers, whose livelihoods otherwise depend on the unpredictable nature of agricultural work.

Woven using yarn from second-hand sweaters with beautiful leather strps (made from food industry byproducts) and tassels from a tannery local to the cooperative network. The metal bead rivets are made from recycled and sand-casted brass by artisans living in Nairobi’s Kawangware. We love that this shoulder bag can also be worn cross-body.

Bags generally measure 8-9" (bottom diameter) x 9-10" (height) - however each basket is unique so the size may vary by a couple inches in any direction.

The Basket Room creates beautiful collections of handwoven, decorative storage baskets for the home. Woven with stunning colors  and truly unique patterns, they work with small craft collectives in Africa to bring us ethical, stylish accessories with a story.
