João yarn from Retrosaria is made from the wool of Portuguese Merino sheep, a native breed found in the south of Portugal, mainly in the Alentejo. We adore this single ply, rustic sport weight yarn for its texture, oh-so-sweet color palette, and thoughtful production. Great for knitting, crochet, weaving, and punch needle rug hooking (double or triple it up in your regular hook and carry solo in a fine hook!).
The Portuguese Merino Breeders Association (ANCORME) verifies the origin and quality of the fleece used to produce João.
Retrosaria Rosa Pomar makes minimally processed, heritage wool yarns from Portugal. Their yarns are created in collaboration with small manufacturers, breeders associations, and shepherds. All Rosa Pomar yarns are non-superwash, not bleached, have no silicone-based softeners, and mulesing is not practiced in Portugal.
