The original dropcloth sampler from the ever talented, Rebecca Ringquist, is beautifully and usefully designed. This sampler is a great introduction to embroidery, and when completed serves as a visual record of over twenty stitches. Instead of having a book and a scrap of fabric, this sampler combines the two! The finished sampler measures 7" x 9" and for best results, we recommend using 3 strands of embroidery floss or size 8 perle cotton in your needles. Thread and needles are not included.
Added bonus, Rebecca has a Creativebug workshop based on this sampler. It's a fun, easy-to-follow walk through of all of the sampler stitches.
Rebecca Ringquist is a Porltand, Oregon based visual artist. Approaching the technique of embroidery as a way of drawing, Ringquist's stitched works explore issues of identity through thinly veiled metaphors utilizing old fashioned imagery and double entendres. The colorful, abstract and often autobiographical works are both sculptural and painterly. She learned how to embroider in college in a feminist art history class, and has been inspired by the history of American needlework ever since.
