About this experience
This is a beginner workshop covering the basics of embroidery, including how to get started and some of the most fun, common stitches as well as tips and tricks. We will use Rebecca Ringquist’s beautiful drop cloth sampler to guide the work, leaving you with a charming and frame-worthy sampler at the end of the workshop. Over the three-week class you will learn oh-so-much, including:
+ Choosing and working with thread.
+ Threading needles for embroidery. + Setting up a hoop.
+ Lots of stitches, including running stitch, filled running stitch, double filled, running stitch, backstitch, couching, backstitch, feather stitch, satin stitch, blanket stitch, chain stitch, lazy daisy stitch, algerian eye, french knot, bullion knot, coral stitch, and spider web knot.
+ Tying off threads and finishing.
This is a 3-SESSION workshop that meets on all of the following dates (apologies for the confusion - our event booking app is working on making this clearer in the future!). By signing up for this $155 workshop you are signing up for 7.5 hours of class over the following dates.

This is a beginner class - no previous skills required. Price includes thoughtfully sourced materials (no additional materials fees). Students also get 15% off in the shop while they are workshop students (for multi-session/week workshops this discount applies to the entire duration of workshop).
All classes meet at our shop at 606 Carpenter Lane, Philadelphia PA 19119 - in the heart of Mt. Airy Village. There is plenty of free on-street parking as well as High Point Cafe and Weaver's Way Co-op steps away for your food and beverage needs. Kiddos are always welcome to hang in the shop!

EMILY CARRIS is an Artist and Founding Member of The Art Dept, a collaborative vintage store and workshop space dedicated to sharing stories and uplifting underserved artists. She has a BA in Education and Photography from Eugene Lang College in New York. She holds a Master's degree in photography from UCA in Kent, England. Her work exploring the personal and cultural legacy of slavery and the Black female body has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Emily has worked as photography teacher and museum educator at the International Center of Photography in New York. She currently lives and works in Philadelphia @carrisbears.
