Learn to weave a traditional Appalachian egg basket, using both round and flat reed. The shape of this beautiful basket keeps eggs from rolling around so you can carry them safely without breakage. This basket is perfect for those who raise chickens or anyone who wants to have a beautiful, handmade basket for gathering herbs, veggies, and flowers from the garden or to display in their home. In this workshop you will learn how to make an “ear” with the handle and rim where the ribs will be placed; how to space the ribs so that you create the traditional shape and weave with the over/under pattern that forms the sides and bottom of the basket. Although you will not be staining the basket in class, Sara will explain how it is done. You will receive a pattern and multiple handouts regarding basketry. This is a beginner workshop and no experience is necessary, however moderate hand strength is needed to comfortably enjoy the workshop. The fee includes all of the materials you need for the workshop.
