::virtual:: Wheel Spinning Basics
This variant is currently sold out
This virtual (with a masked in-person add-on option) one-session workshop will include a demonstration and overview of spinning yarn on a wheel. Students do not need to have a wheel to participate - this is a great way to start to explore if spinning yarn on a wheel is right for you. If you do have a wheel or access to a wheel you can use this class to reorient yourself!
There is an option to sign-up for an additional one-hour masked in-person lesson on 3/1 or 3/2 (you will sign-up for a specific time-slot) in our Mt. Airy, Philadelphia shop. If you decide to sign-up for the one-on-one follow-up lesson you will get an Ashford Niddy Noddy as well as fiber to use during the lesson on our shop wheel (that will be sanitized between students).
During the ::virtual:: demonstration you will learn oh-so-much, including:
+ What it means to spin yarn.
+ Types of wheels.
+ Parts, Ratios, and knowing your wheel.
+ Types of spinning.
+ Selecting your fiber.
+ Z + S Twists
+ Yarn Storage
+ Wheel Maintenance
During the in-person masked one-on-one lesson you will get to spin yarn from different types of fiber (included) on an Ashford Spinning Wheel and transfer it to a Niddy Noddy (included)!! You will learn about drafting and treadling as well as get your specific questions answered along the way.
This is a beginner workshop - no previous experience or equipment is required. All Wild Hand workshop students also get a one-time 15% discount for use during and up to two weeks following the last class session. This includes equipment! If you'd like to purchase an Ashford spinning wheel before or after the workshop you may use the discount code on a wheel - shipping times change regularly on Ashford equipment due to COVID and manufacturing delays - you can always reach out to the shop for the most up-to-date availability information before ordering.
Workshops meet virtually via Zoom - links and passcodes will arrive with your workshop order confirmation (you will receive a confirmation email for your full order and then separately an email with just workshop details).
The ::virtual:: demonstration part of this workshop has no materials. The in-person masked one-on-one lesson includes an Ashford Niddy Noddy and fiber for spinning. You will pick these up and use them at your lesson.
Cancellation Policy :: We know and understand that schedules change! Wild Hand will happily offer a store credit refund for cancellations made a week or more in advance. For cancellations made less than a week in advance we can offer a 50% store credit refund. We do this so that we can still pay the teaching artist for your spot in the class.
