Emily Carris will teach you everything you need to know to get on the path to being a Happy Hooker! In this 3-session class you will learn how best to hold the hook, chain, and a few basic crochet stitches. You will start to create your own crocheted market tote. Over the three-week class you will learn oh-so-much, including:
+ Chain Stitch
+ Single Crochet & Double Crochet
+ Slip Stitch & Skip Stitch
+ Pattern Reading
+ Finishing, Washing, and Cotton Care
This is a beginner level class - no skills required and all ages above 8 are welcome. Price includes thoughtfully sourced materials (no additional materials fees). Students also get 15% off in the shop on workshop days!
All classes meet at our shop at 606 Carpenter Lane, Philadelphia PA 19119 - in the heart of Mt. Airy Village. There is plenty of free on-street parking as well as High Point Cafe and Weaver's Way Co-op steps away for your food and beverage needs. Smaller kiddos and dogs are also always welcome to hang in the shop!
EMILY CARRIS is an Artist and Founding Member of The Art Dept, a collaborative vintage store and workshop space dedicated to sharing stories and uplifting underserved artists. She has a BA in Education and Photography from Eugene Lang College in New York. She holds a Master's degree in photography from UCA in Kent, England. Her work exploring the personal and cultural legacy of slavery and the Black female body has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Emily has worked as photography teacher and museum educator at the International Center of Photography in New York. She currently lives and works in Philadelphia @carrisbears.
