ITO Nui is a spun silk thread, ideal for sewing, quilting, and embroidery. It is gorgeous and works well for both hand work and machine work. The spun silk has a super soft sheen and two plies are twisted for optimal strength to a thickness of 2/60 NM (30 wt). The glossy, slightly pearly texture of ITO Nui lends itself beautifully to surface designs like quilting, free motion embroidery, applique, top stitching, or outlining. ITO Nui will give strong seams to sewing projects and is a beautiful, sustainable alternative to polyester thread. Wild Hand carries all 64 colors of this super-special thread from Japan.
ITO is Japanese for yarn or thread. ITO – Fine Yarn from Japan are special yarns, produced in Japan: a country with a long tradition in textiles. ITO collaborates with small spinning and dyeing mills and understands itself as ambassador for the unique Japanese textile tradition. ITO yarns are distinguished by their special manufacturing process, extraordinary composition, and unusual color palette or variety, and all ITO yarns are subject to fair labor conditions and high industry standards and are – in part handcrafted, in part from recycled materials – produced entirely by small family businesses in Japan.
We recommend a spool stand or thread holder so that the yarn can wind vertically from the spool. For machine embroidery we recommend a 75/11 embroidery needle. Please test your needle and thread on your fabric first to determine if this thread will work well with your specific machine. For machine sewing we recommend a 90/14 universal needle.
