If you're looking for an eco-friendly and long lasting alternative to a foam felting mat, this burlap work surface is for you! Made with two layers of high quality burlap and a wide zipper sewn into one side, so that you can open it up and fill it with rice (or other fill of your choice). No tying or sewing required! Just zip it back up again and you're ready to go. Want to change the type of fill later or repair a hole? No problem! The big zipper makes that easy.

We recommend 6 lbs. of rice as the fill. The mat measures 12 in. x 12 in. without the fill, giving you a generous 10 in. x 10 in. of work surface when full. Ships to you empty to keep the shipping cost down. We recommend this mat primarily for sculpting. It doesn't work well for flat projects that are detailed. The exception for flat is if you are felting into a very thick wool prefelt or thick wool handmade backing and your project isn't super detailed. We love it for sculpting though! Its so nice to have a natural fiber alternative to foam.
