Modest Transitions x Wild Hand Naturally Dyed Needle & Hook Case

$40.00
$50.00

This one-of-a-kind, 100% organic canvas, hand-dyed with natural materials needle, hook, and notions case is exclusive to Wild Hand and designed in collaboration with the amazing local fiber artist and natural dyer, Melanie Hasan, from Modest Transitions.

The Modest Transitions x Wild Hand Naturally Dyed Needle & Hook Case can fit oh-so-much and accommodate many different fiber crafters, including folks who practice multiple crafts. It can fit both (at the same time!) the 5" and 3.5" Lykke Interchangeable Knitting Needle sets (and nearly all standard interchangeable sets!) as well as individual and sets of crochet hooks, 10" straight needles, DPNs, and all the notions you need! The strong, flexible elastic bands as well as two zipper pockets and nine open slip pockets give you tons of room to get organized.

Each case is truly one-of-a-kind. All were made from the same fabric but the specific cut of fabric and the pattern of the speckles and buttery tones will vary from case-to-case (something we love about this project and working with hand-dyed fabric).

We designed the Modest Transitions x Wild Hand Naturally Dyed Needle & Hook Case to be super flexible so that as your fiber craft focus ebbs and flows over time you will have a case that can accommodate the tools you need.

Materials + Production

Designed with 100% organic canvas, the Modest Transitions x Wild Hand Naturally Dyed Needle & Hook Case includes remnants for inside the slip pockets, and a consciousness for creating as close to zero waste as possible in the design process.

All of the fabric colors are derived naturally from botanicals and minerals, which have been sourced from small farmers, waste, and grown just outside Philadelphia in Melanie's own backyard! The fabric is dyed by hand in a beautifully slow, unpredictable, and meditative process. After preparing the fabric with a thorough salt cleanse a color and print extraction takes several hours to days before entering the dye-bath. Once the dye-bath is ready, fabric is added to a simmering pot for several hours (often overnight) or steamed. This process reduces waste and lessens the environmental impact of the dye materials.

After the fabric is dyed and dried, it is sewn in small batches by Melanie and her small team of female-identifying sewists just outside Philadelphia.

Modest Transitions x Wild Hand

Melanie and Liz were brought together by their shared wonder and love for thoughtfully, sustainably created textiles as well as a dedication to creating safe, welcoming spaces and products that put equity and inclusion at the forefront. They met in the midst of the pandemic as two busy mama entrepreneurs that had not so long ago left the nonprofit sector to follow their fiber-focused passions. From this relationship a beautiful, functional, sustainable needle & hook case was born. This is just the beginning of the collaboration - with more to come this fall and winter!!

Melanie Hasan is a self-taught designer, textile artist and founder of Modest Transitions. After giving birth to her son, Melanie found a meditative connection with design and textiles. Dedicating her medium through natural dyeing and sustainability in order to lessen environmental impact. While striving to bridge the gap between modesty and fashion, she is inspired by inclusion and natural beauty to create one-of-a-kind garments to empower women and challenge beauty norms.
